How to download Instagram Reels videos
Save a public Instagram Reel to your phone or computer as a standard MP4 file, in a few steps and without installing an app.
Step by step
- Open the Reel in the Instagram app or on instagram.com.
- Tap the paper-plane (Share) icon and choose Copy link. On desktop, copy the address from the browser bar.
- Paste the link into the box on the Reel Download home page. The Instagram chip lights up when the link is recognised.
- Press Download. After a few seconds the file is prepared and a result card with the video title appears.
- Press Download on the result card. The MP4 is saved to your Downloads folder (or Files/Gallery on a phone).
A typical link looks like https://www.instagram.com/reel/AbC123xyz/. Any link of that shape works; extra tracking parameters after a ? are fine.
Tips for better results
- The Reel must be on a public account. Private accounts cannot be fetched.
- Links to Instagram posts and Reels both work; stories and highlights are not supported.
- Downloaded files are re-encoded to H.264/AAC when needed so they play on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS without extra codecs.
- Files are capped at about 500 MB and 1080p.
Troubleshooting
It says the video could not be downloaded
The account is probably private, or the Reel was removed or restricted by region or age. Open the link in a private browser window; if you can't watch it there, we can't fetch it either.
The link isn't recognised
Make sure you copied the full share link beginning with https://. Short links from other apps that redirect elsewhere are not supported.
Use downloads responsibly
